Overview:
Portugal is a nation on the western edge of the Iberian Peninsula with one of Europe's oldest and most storied histories. Founded as an independent kingdom in the 12th century, Portugal became a global maritime power during the Age of Discovery, when explorers like Vasco da Gama charted sea routes to Africa, Asia, and the Americas, spreading Roman Catholicism throughout its vast colonial empire, a legacy still deeply woven into the nation's identity today. Portugal remains nominally one of the most Catholic countries in Europe, shaped strongly by the Marian apparitions at Fátima in 1917, yet this cultural Catholicism often exists alongside low church attendance and rising secularism, especially among younger generations, while evangelical Christians make up only a small percentage of the population. Portugal is a beautiful and welcoming country to serve in, offering the opportunity to partner with a small but growing evangelical church while helping open hearts to the transforming truth of the Gospel. The Evangelical Church is one of the youngest in Europe, as it is only about 70 years old. But through it, the gospel has taken hold and begun to impact the next generation who are hungry and looking for hope. 

Ministry Description:
A Christian camp needs your help to reach young people who may not hear about Jesus otherwise. Summer camp is a powerful way to invite more children and youth to follow Jesus. Situated on the coast near Porto, this camp is a perfect spot for kids to hear the gospel through your testimony and Bible sharing. Teams participate in service projects and spiritual conversations to see lives transformed in each of the two camps that they help run.

Included in your trip:
Base Missions provides you with an opportunity to train and send your group on a mission experience that will be a catalyst for evangelism when they return home. You will receive a leader guide to coach you throughout your mission experience and 24/7 personal support should you have questions. Before you go, Base Missions staff will visit your site to make sure your ministry will be sustainable, effective, and impactful.

Food and Lodging:
You will be staying in a local missionary's home, a mission guest house, or church. While you are there, your hosts will prepare authentic local food for you.

Age Limit: Participants must be a minimum of 18 years old.  

Airport and Transportation:
Base Missions will arrange your all transportation (i.e., airfare, in-country transportation) after you arrive at the launch site. Transportation to/from the launch site is the responsibility of the participant, but may be eligible for reimbursement if the participant raises excess funds for the trip.

Visa and Passport:
A visa is not required for this trip. A passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your trip dates is required. Passport fees are not included in the trip prices.

Vaccinations:
Please consult your doctor, local travel clinic, and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) website at www.cdc.gov for information on appropriate vaccinations for Portugal.
